Who to contact: (continued)

To report a manatee in distress:

Call the Florida Marine Patrol at 1-800-DIAL FMP from any telephone or *FMP on your cell phone if you spot an sick, injured, orphaned, tagged, or dead manatee.

Be prepared to report to the Florida Marine Patrol your name, phone number, the nature of your concern (injured, orphaned, tagged, or dead manatee) and the exact location of the manatee.
Please note that pink or red wounds indicate a fresh injury. White or grey scaring indicates a healed injury. If the manatee is acting erratic (frequent surfacing not consistent with traveling), the manatee may also be suffering from internal injuries even though the external wound has healed.

You should also call the Florida Marine Patrol any time you see a manatee being harassed; watercraft entering restricted areas or speeding in protected areas; or any other situation in which a manatee is in distress.
